COLORADO SPRINGS -

February is National  Heart month and fighting obesity and being at your ideal weight is a big key to heart health. A 22-year-old Texas man has lost almost 200 pounds to arrive at his ideal body weight, and he is hoping his weight loss journey can help inspire others.  He documented his journey and recently posted it on social media.  After just 3 days it went viral.

22-year old Andy Albert son was overweight for most of his life.  At his heaviest Andy weighed 317 pounds.  With the help of his family and his trainer he was able to drop 176 pounds.

Andy say’s "It's actually very hard to see that was me at one point. I don't have a lot of memories of being that big."

His family decided to document his weight loss journey, but they never thought it would blow up online.  It’s had close to 70 thousand views on social media.

Andy adds, “it’s has just taken off like we haven't expected, hopefully it can just continue to grow and I can reach people and help encourage, inspire, and motivate them to begin their journey"

Andy’s mother is very proud of her son and says, "Andy said that he just wants to be able to help other people, to motivate them, inspire them, encourage them, and let them know you're not alone. Isolation is one of the worst things that happens when you're obese.  You feel like you're alone"

Andy's journey is certainly one that developed because of hard work and discipline.  Jerry Hughes is Andy’s personal trainer.  "It's inspiring.  I mean the deal is he did it the right way. You see TV shows and all these things, those are all in controlled environments people are made to lose weight. People are made to eat this and that. Andy did it in the real world."

Andy says his physical journey has also been an emotional one.  "In the documentary, the moment where I look up I got real emotional there because I forget how far I've come and what I truly look like."

Mary Albertson has also seen the emotional effects of her son’s physical transformation.  "Now he takes pride in the way he looks. He stands with so much more confidence. He doesn't mind people looking at him anymore."

Andy's weight loss journey has also inspired his mother.  Mary, is now on a journey of her own.  She's already down 60 pounds and she wants to help change the lives of parents who have children who are obese.

Mary says, "Do not let it happen, you're in control. If you allow this happen to your child, not only are you damaging them physically but the emotional and the mental damage you do to them will last forever."

If you’re interested in getting started with a healthy weight loss plan there are many kinds of structured diet plans that can help you get going, like the personal coaching and services you can find at Metabolic Research Center in Colorado Springs .  Personal training is available at almost any gym, and your doctor can also offer advice on a healthy approach to fitness and eating.  The key is finding something you are committed to and can stick with.
