    The El Paso County Department of Human Services is welcoming a new executive director this month. Julie Krow comes from the State Department of Human Services where she served as the Deputy Executive Director. She has been working in El Paso County for a few months, and will take over the department at the end of February.

    National Adoption Awareness month just wrapped up at the end of November. To celebrate the Pueblo County Department of Human Services finalized five adoptions in one day. Adoption day is often the end of a very long road, sometimes years in the making. Adoption day jitters turned to excitement as three couples realized the fresh start with their now official families.

    A family from the San Luis Valley is setting a new precedent for adoptions in the state of Colorado. Steve and Annie Reed wanted to open their home to seven-year-old Elena from Douglas County, but logistics between two counties made it seem impossible. "Neither county was willing to license us," said Annie Reed.

    A Colorado Springs family is growing once again. When we first introduced you to Tim and Gabrielle King, they'd adopted two little boys born addicted to narcotics, but they had room in their hearts and home for more. News5 was there as baby Soren's adoption became official.

    Colorado State Patrol said a 28-year-old woman died after a head-on crash Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 50 about 13 miles west of Cañon City. Troopers said the woman was driving a 2002 Chevy Trail Blazer eastbound on the westbound lanes of the highway when it collided with a dump truck.
